Sure, all very important. But if you want to achieve professional results, you should also evaluate the angle of a drill bit because the difference exists and is substantial.
What is the Angle of a Drill Bit?
With this term we mean, as the name itself suggests, the angle created by the cutting sections of the bit itself. In other words? If you look at the drill bit as a cone, the top is the angle of the point. This is fundamental because it affects how this tool built for drilling metal, wood, or stone cuts the material and delivers a precision hole.

It must be remembered, as the image above suggests, that when we understand the concept of angle for a drill bit there are two options: the one connected to the cutting edges in the apical part (that is, the final point of the cutting tool) and the cutting edge angle. Why is the Angle of a Bit Important?

What are the Angles and What are They Used For?

First we have models with small angle (about 60° - 100°) for soft materials like aluminum, brass, wood where the bit is sharper, penetrates easily into the material concentrating the force on a smaller area, and facilitates entry into the material. This bit is also perfect for plastic, requires less torque to penetrate but can wear faster and tends to scratch the edge of the hole.
Let's talk about the standard angle (about 118°): this solution is common for universal metal bits and wood bits. It offers a good compromise between penetration and durability: it works reasonably on a wide range of materials like mild steel, iron, but also less demanding ones.
Such as wood, plastic, aluminum. This degree of the bit offers good cutting edge resistance for most daily applications, generates moderate heat during drilling, and has good chip evacuation. In this regard, you won't get excellent results: on very hard materials it overheats easily; on aluminum or brass you produce burrs and the hole can be less clean.
A large angle of about 135° has reason to exist when we work in conditions where robustness and wear resistance are needed.
The bit is flatter, well-structured, ideal for hard materials like stainless steel, cast iron, hardened alloys, hard bronze. Thanks to this characteristic - larger angle - you can fragment the chip better, reducing the risk of groove clogging, and better handle stresses as well as high temperatures.
Clearly, you need more torque to rotate the bit better, so you need powerful drills. To reach a summary, we can say that for standard work you can orient your purchase to the classic 118-degree bits while for specific applications you have higher and lower gradations available. To be used however always with proper precautions.
